Design a floor plan of your new home and identify what each room will contain
Start researching your new community. The Internet is a great source for information.
Create for yourself a “move file” to keep track of all information i.e. estimates, receipts, etc…
Start collecting moving estimates, including one from “Dino's Movers”
7 Weeks:
Arrange for school records to be transferred to your children's new school/daycare
Ask your existing doctors if they can give you referrals in your new community
Contact health clubs or other organizations that you have joined. Ask how you can sell, transfer, or end your membership
You may be eligible to deduct transportation, travel, and lodging expenses for job-related moves
6 Weeks:
Once you have a new doctor, arrange for medical records to be transferred
Make a list of relatives, friends and businesses who need to be notified of your move
Start to use things that are not able to be moved, such as cleaning chemicals and frozen foods
Go through each room and take inventory of contains. Decide on the inventory that you want to get rid of, start planning a garage sale
5 Weeks:
Start collecting boxes and other supplies. You can order from Dino's Movers “ Packing Supplies ”, which will be delivered to your home
In the event you need to file an insurance claim later, take inventory of your belongings before they're packed. Take pictures or video tape your belongings and record serial numbers
4 Weeks:
Inform your utility services to disconnect at your old home one day after you have moved, and have your utility services connected at your new home one day before you arrive
Make travel arrangements for your pets
If subscribed with a newspaper, set a date to cancel your subscription
If you plan to have a garage sale, advertise and host your garage sale
3 Weeks:
Dispose of flammable, corrosives and poisons
Decide if you will keep your plants or give them away
Make sure all library books have been returned and all items that are out for repair/dry cleaning have been picked up
If you are moving into/out of apartment, arrange to use the elevator for the day of your move
Return any belongings that you borrowed
2 Weeks:
Confirm travel arrangements for family members and pets
Contact your bank to transfer or close accounts
Create a folder of information about the house for the new owner
Plan your meals for the last week to help empty the refrigerator and not use appliances that will already be packaged
1 Week:
Drain all gas and oil from any power tools and drain out water hoses
Empty and clean your refrigerator at least 24 hours before moving day
Make arrangements for childcare on moving day
Notify friends and family of your new address and phone number(s)
